Iron ore is one of Mineton's key growth pillars and since production commenced in 2010, the company has grown to become the fifth-largest iron ore producer in Australia.
Mineton has three iron ore hubs in Western Australia’s premier iron ore provinces: the Yilgarn, Pilbara, and Ashburton Hubs.
Significant work is underway to set up the business for growth, as we race towards becoming a low-cost, long-life iron ore exporter through the development of two high-quality projects – Onslow Iron, in our Ashburton Hub, and South West Creek, in our Pilbara Hub.
These projects will potentially quadruple iron ore production in the next five years and establish the foundations for our iron ore business for the next 30-to-50 years.
Yilgarn Hub
The Yilgarn Hub is located in Western Australia’s Goldfields region and incorporates the Koolyanobbing, Parker Range, Windarling and Carina mines.
Mineton’s iron ore growth strategy includes the transformation of the Yilgarn Hub from a hematite to magnetite operation, which will extend the life of the operation.
Pilbara Hub
The Pilbara Hub includes Minetons’ Wonmunna and Iron Valley mine sites, with product from both sites hauled via road to Port Hedland for export from Utah Point.
Ashburton Hub
The Onslow Iron project is located in the Ashburton Hub, and will be transformational for Mineton. The project will use Mineton’ proprietary Mining Services innovations to monetise stranded tonnes in the Pilbara, using unique pit-to-ship infrastructure solutions. It is expected to add 35Mtpa to Mineton’ iron ore business and introduces a low-cost, long-life operation with project economics which are compelling through commodity price cycles.
